Sad to say the vacation is over!

I had a sensational time at my son Laurie's wedding back in the UK. He married his longtime girlfriend Tora on the 25th August at a wonderful service held in Lemington Spa in Warwickshire with a reception at the splendid Old Rectory Hotel in the village of Ipsley near Redditch.

I'm so pleased to welcome Tora to the family and would like to thank her parents Mike and Pam for their amazing generosity and hospitality during our stay.

At the reception Laurie and Tora asked my daughter Georgie to perform the song she sang last year at my birthday party in the USA, the day after Laurie proposed to her. Here it is:

Music for the reception was provided by a terrific band called the Cartoon Kings. If you're thinking about a fun outfit for a party, they're highly recommended.

I meet people every day in the USA who drop in on this website, but it was more than gratifying to discover how many people back in the UK also visit here, reading the news and feedback pages, watching the videos and listening to the audio. I shall continue to try and keep you entertained.

If you like what you find please tell your friends to visit.

Guitar pioneer Les Paul will get his due at American Music Masters salute in November

Electric-guitar pioneer Les Paul has been chosen as the honoree for the 13th annual American Music Masters series, presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Case Western Reserve University and Gibson Guitar Corp. Paul's search for "this golden sound" changed the course of music history. "The Wizard of Waukesha: The Life and Legacy of Les Paul" is set to culminate at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, with a tribute concert at Playhouse Square's State Theatre in Cleveland. Organizers hope Paul, 93, will be able to attend. Performers will be announced in the next few weeks.

OPEN MICS WORTH A VISIT IN ATLANTA

Eddie's Attic on a Monday Night used to be my favorite open mic, not for playing in, but simply listening. However, after a while, a diet of angst ridden young men (and women) sharing their problems with us is not the healthiest of fare. One longs for a bit of - fun (?). However, open mics are what they are, and Eddie's booking policy seems to ignore these types in favor of real talent. Eddie and Bob, as a singer friend told me, are the most grounded and dedicated supporters of singer/songwriters in the city. In summary: though open mics are variable, booked artists are always quality. If you are passing through Atlanta, the Attic is worth attending, if only to catch Eddie or Bob's eye wth a view to a future gig. Eddie's Attic, 515-B North McDonough Street, (Upstairs) Decatur, GA 30030. (404) 377-4976

The Northern Star Coffee House in Norcross on Tuesdays is now in the hands of Harmon Koeltz and he is working hard to make it a true listening room. I went there last week and had a great evening. He is also booking acts for the weekends. Worth a visit for aspiring singers.Northern Star Coffee House, 45 S Peachtree Street, Norcross, GA, 30071 Tel (770) 409-4009. There is also a MySpace page which has the music schedule: http://www.myspace.com/northernstarcoffee.

The Red Light Cafe on Wednesdays has taken on a new lease of life. It was in bad shape for a while, with too many regulars and no audience. But there has been a shake-up in the organization and energy is flowing in once again. Gigs are available and the man to impress there is Bill behind the bar. Red Light Cafe, Amsterdam Walk, 553 Amsterdave Ave, Atlanta (404) 874-7828.

Ragamuffin Music Hall Open Mic on Thursdays has hit its stride. The standard of performance is very high and as a result every singer is on his game. "His" is the only problem: more women to Ragamuffin please! Unlike Eddies Attic Open Mic, there is no competitive element to the evening. the result is a supportive atmosphere making the evening relaxed and enjoyable. (Jackie does the booking for Saturday candlelight concerts)Ragamuffin Music Hall, 585 Atlanta Street, Roswell, GA  30075. (770) 656-5137
